So I noticed aliexpress had Nintendo DS models for sale pretty cheaply and after some research landed on this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005075386850.html

I'd had no idea what to expect until it came in today. Here are the questions I had, having never owned a Nintendo DS and therefore never used a R4 DS card, one of which was attached to the console. Snoopy / Plus / Revolution.

1. The system is in Japanese, and though multiple online webpages and YouTube videos give (unfollowable) instructions on how to change the system language to English, it doesn't work. There's no way to change the system language, unless I'm mistaken.

2. There are some games already on the system, as promised, though I can't make out where they are exactly - on the R4 card? On the SD Card? They are all in Japanese and Chinese, as stated in the folders ('foreign game' folders are all filled with Japanese games), so I'm going to have to replace all the files inside with my own collection of DS games. Question is, how? I did a few google searched and couldn't understand how an R4 card works exactly. Do the ROMs go on the R4 card or the SD Card?

Funnier still, I opened the SD card slot on the console and found it... completely empty. Or is it stuck really deep inside?

3. I have absolutely no idea why a flash drive is attached to it? How is that going to help me transfer files exactly?

Would appreciate some help, thanks in advance!

1. https://dsi.cfw.guide/faq.html#can-i-change-my-nintendo-dsi-s-region

2. DS games (foreign games folder etc) are stored on a micro SD card inside the R4 card itself.

You can manage the contents on your computer (using a micro sd card adaptor) e.g replace the foreign games folder with your backups and put the micro sd card back into the R4.

Sounds like your DSi’s SD card (used for photos, music and DSi software etc) slot is empty.

3. R4 firmware/menu files?

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite
    for people with beefy hands.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

Nor clothes 🤮 . Saves on time, soap, water and money having to wash them. :D
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
