GBA games were still being made during the first 2-3 years of the DS and they were even BC, so why can't digital eShop versions of 3DS and possibly Wii U games be the same?
Lack of a second screen is the number one reason, LOL.

I think they might have some success selling a separate dock with Wii U hardware built in. The Switch would then emulate the Gamepad for Wii U games. That being said, I don't think we'll see any backwards compatibility except in the form of Virtual Console.

Lack of a second screen is the number one reason, LOL.
They could sell one as an attachment. Or an attachment for your phone/tablet to be the second screen.

Here's a question: how much extra would you guys be willing to pay for backwards compatibility?

EDIT: To clarify, backwards compatibility requires extra hardware and costs money to implement. All other things being equal, a console with backwards compatibility will cost more. My question is, if the Switch costs a certain amount $X, how much more would you be willing to pay to have backwards compatibility?

IMO BC should come standard with all versions of the console. If they charge more just for bc I'm not gonna be a happy camper lol
Backwards compatibility requires extra hardware. A console without BC can be sold cheaper than a backwards compatible one. How much extra would you be willing to pay for backwards compatibility?

$5%
I would like at least 95% of my money to go to new games and new experiences.

PS: For people that don't understand proportions, if the NS or any other new console costed 300€, I would expect that worst case scenario only 15€ of it will be dedicated to BC and the extra 285€ would be for new experiences. Allocating any more money/hw/engineering/time to support BC (in proportion) would of course mean allocating less money/hw/engineering/time to creating new technology and content, and I couldn't care less to replay the same old shit.

Nada, zip zilch. Like I said, IMO it should play WiiU games. Obviously it will be no easy task due to the architecture being different. If I have to wait a while for them to figure things out (like the BC on xbone), I'm totally fine with that. I just don't think we should have to pay extra for a feature, that's been fairly standard for a while now.

Before anybody calls me out about the ps4 or ps3 situation, at least they both play original psx/psone games (current models).

Ps3 was BC in the early phases, with ps2 games, but was later taken out, due to overheating issues (they basically crammed a ps2 in the same case as the ps3 lol).

I mean I understand sometimes BC is attempted and it backfires like in the previous example, but my hopes are that ninty will at least be able to get most WiiU games functional on the switch at some point in time, just my 2 cents.

That's not what I'm asking. Backwards compatibility would make the console more expensive. It's been a "standard feature" for a while but those consoles would have been cheaper without it. Like you said, the PS3 had a whole other console crammed inside it, don't think that didn't increase the retail price. You are paying for backwards compatibility.

People always pay for features, be it in the original console price, in additional online service price, in additional licensing price on each game, etc.
Why is difficult to understand that any company will translate additional costs to the consumer?
(or they will just make another feature cheaper, e.g. new content and hardware, to compensate... nobody plans to go for a lose in the long term)

Oh okay, I see your point now. I thought u meant if Nintendo realize a version with BC (for more) and one without (for less). Idk its hard to say, is the price even announced yet hw?

If they somehow came out with a Switch 3DS variation or some weird, yet seamless 3DS attachment, I would pay around $60 extra.

I honestly don't want BC besides VC games, it's BC that's been holding them back with the PPC chips they use.

Ironically though ppc architecture has a lot more registers to work with.

If you had a ppc chip equivalent in clock speed and cache to a modern day x64 chip, the ppc would run circles around the x64. My guess as to why ppc was abandoned ages ago (in computers) is BC from a security standpoint, they're very vulnerable

How is PowerPC "vulnerable"?

The actual reason why Apple abandoned PowerPC is because IBM was unable to come up with a mobile variant of the PowerPC 970 ("G5") that would actually work decently in a laptop. (Power usage, heat output, etc.) PowerPC 4xx is still used in some embedded fields, e.g. automotive, and the high-end POWER series (POWER8, POWER9, etc.) is used in some of IBM's really expensive mainframes.

Look, kid, computers aren't magic boxes that just make things work because you will them to.
First of all mf dont disrespect me youre 1 year older than me so grow the fuck up. My point is if you aint working on the switch's interal circuitry then you cant say what it can or cant do until its released so just because you have a "degree" dont mean shit lol you can still be wrong bruh

Ok ill use this example again xbox one BC program didnt need new hardware i had mine since DAY 1 and didnt need to pay extra

Why do you feel that only those who are directly working with the "internal circuitry" are the only qualified ones to know? Why can we not work from what Nvidia has told us and what we know of their tech, combined with our extensive knowledge of how current/old nintendo tech work?

Because this is new and hasnt been even released nor has the spec to make these observations and be 100% correct
