Not all discrimination is equal

It's been a while since I thought about writing this, and since things keep happening that remind me about it, I'm going ahead.
So, it might be obvious to some, but not all forms of discrimination are equally accepted in society. Discrimination about physical features (wearing glasses, being short/tall etc.) or illnesses is generally despised by most people.
Discrimination about groups of people is where it gets tricky. Racist remarks (especially if heavily so) are also generally frowned upon. Homophobic ones are quite more accepted, but are quickly becoming less so as the LGB rights situation improves, while transphobic and sexist ones (rape jokes and such) are the most accepted. Usually, a trans person can't even point out that a statement is insulting, that it gets labeled as a joke, or that the trans person is seen as "exaggerating", or "being incapable to take jokes".
This also reflects in online communities/chatrooms, since I saw cases where a racist insult results in measures from the staff, while homophobic and transphobic ones barely result in any.

People take discrimination to mean stereotype. Discrimination is the unfair treatment of particular groups of people based on factors such as race, gender, religion, sexuality etc. This is not protected by any laws. However, sexuality is protected, at least in the us. Same sex marriage is legal, discrimination from employers and businesses based on gender/sexual orientation are not allowed, violence against these groups are illegal. There is no discrimination against gender/sexual orientation here. What you have to deal with is stereotyping and negative comments. No one in the world is protected from that. Why? Because it is the vocalization of opinions, freespeech. You have the freedom to be whoever you are/want to be. But that freedom ends when it over steps other people's freedom. You don't have the right to tell people not to say things you don't like, even if their opinions are bigoted. Just like it would be wrong for people to silence you. You're offended? So fucking what?. So again, get the fuck over it and toughen up.

Even when it is a discrimination if I am not you're not employer or a business there is no liability even if that needs to change too. I'll work endlessly for freedom of thought and association so no one is ever obligated to associate with someone whom they choose not you.

My personal policy is anytime government is telling me I cannot dislike a group I am going to dislike them on principal. When given a legal obligation to interact I am going to do everything I can to exclude them.

Words are words.
People like to give words more power then themselves.
People like to attach those words to themselves and think they have that power.
I like to use words in ways where they don't actually mean what I people think.
Hate me for saying this but I do say it a lot "that shits mad gay" but not to offend gay people or to tick people off because they think I'm homophobic and say it towards others or objects in a negative way. I say it because I'm not giving the word power to offend super agressively but rather a meaning such as "that shits mad whack or lame or ass" (don't judge).
I Dont hate people and definitely don't hate people who support their beliefs as long as it's not harmful or hateful.

Why was this bumped?
Also I knew immediately upon seeing the title it was going to be crying about trans discrimination. The problem with trans discrimination is that there are a lot of really fucking psychotic trans people, and they're by far the most vocal screaming from the rooftops making the entire trans community look insane.
There's plenty of legit trans discrimination, since it's the new hot topic after everyone got over people being gay, but there's also a ton of really stupid shit and overreacting from overly sensitive trans people.

Bleh... this was a closed topic.
You lowly humans trying to bring this drama back to life are akin to every other sect resurrecting Dracula in Castlevania. /s
I hope one could unwatch blog posts.

You can actually, near the top right corner of the page under search. Above the blog owners name

@Hells Malice Thanks! The unwatch button didn't show up on mobile, I looked into an actual PC and it is there. Now back to enjoy life again.

PS: Actually it shows up on mobile, but at the very end, below the comment box and above the blog roll. I have to work on not being a blind SOB.

If people are trans and they consider themselves female why not just say you are a female? Its the internet.

And still, even though I unwatched the blog I still receive notifications... Hell, the old bug is still there. I suppose I must cross out that part about enjoying life again.

If you take offence to everything then you'll be a very miserable person not to mention the world itself isn't a great place either. Try to make the best of it.

KonamiFR on Twitter made a Bomberman joke which was at a terrible time and they removed it, but did I criticise them for said joke? No. If France wasn't in the shape that it is then the joke wouldn't have offended anyone.. oops. Politics better be left out of GBATemp. :P

Love this song:

P.S. Thought this was an April Fool's thread and then I noticed the date. xD

Telling a man that he must have enjoyed it when he's raped is obviously sexist too (it refers to the stereotype of men always seeking sex and being available for sex, as part of male virility).
...and yet you don't see me bitching about it. People making jokes for the purpose of offending you is one thing. People making jokes for the sake of making jokes, and you getting offended just means you're insecure. The person may not even know the joke is related to you in any way. I'm so sick of this PC bullshit. A lot of people in the world could use some thicker skin. I know this quote is old, but I'm trying to make a point.

It's called freedom of speech.
It's not other people's fault that there are those who can't handle shit talk.
It's just that, shit talk.

Talking about some people is different than actually discriminating against them.
I can joke about the LGBT community all I want, doesn't mean I hate them or that they should have less rights.

Just stop trying to censor people god fucking dammit.

Anyway, looking at it objectively, on one hand you have minorities which get all sort of non verbal discrmination (in the case of trans people, it gets to the point that often their families don't accept their own identities), and this reflects in the suicide/mental health issues rates. On the other hand, you have someone who wants to offend someone who's really likely to be in a very bad situation (and sorry, but "it's a joke" it's not reasonable when someone says "it's a trap" or "penis princess" when there's a transgirl; there's a clear intent to offend/humiliate). I value the well being of the former more than the "right to offend" of the latter.

Also, nice how someone who doesn't even know me calls me "psychotic", "insane", "overly sensitive" (and not arguing on your point and just attacking the opponent isn't a valid argument; neither is implying that "the only good trans people" are those who act in a certain way; they're respectively "ad hominem" and "no true scotsman" fallacies if anyone is curious :P)

Just because it isn't an issue for you doesn't mean it isn't seriously demeaning to someone else, especially if they went through a traumatic experience. Respect of experience shouldn't be a divisive issue

You know, when I was in high school, I dressed very goth. I got picked on for it quite a bit. I also didn't go start a rally demanding bullies be made to stop. Whether they are right or wrong, you need to be prepared to deal with the consequences of your actions. The world isn't a giant safe space for everyone. Although that would be nice, things just don't work like that. You know what I did? I cracked jokes at my own expense. Worked like a charm most of the time.

neither is implying that "the only good trans people" are those who act in a certain way

There are expectations in public everyone has to adhere to or get a dirty look or in someway be ostracized. People are entitled to feel how they feel. That includes trans people who need to change their appearance, as well people who think it's creepy and are uncomfortable with your dress and appearance.

I value the well being of the former more than the "right to offend" of the latter.

And this is why your community is getting so much backlash, legislating and imposing the rule of law obligating them to associate with you or behave a certain way around you. Despite some history of anti-discrimination laws people value their right to associate, think & feel however they want about whomever they want without being subject to legal action.

You're entitled to much protection from offense as a Christian has the right to not offended by a pornographer or R rated movie, none.
