Not sure which one is my eShop though, lol. My 3ds is NA, and hasn't been in Spain yet. But it will ^^. It doesn't know what "internet" is, either, lol. Just want to be on the safe side until I gather all the info I need.

Ha, well, with a 3DS (U) you have access to the American, Canadian, Mexican and Brazilian eShop; it is said that the Canadian has the best prices, so you may want to chose Canada as your country.

Is there any solution to the "being bothered by the update" yet? I would give up the internet access capability in favor of that any day.
So you mean you are not using emuNAND and you are trying not to update? Formatting your 3DS may work for this (I can't confirm this from first hand) but you should give emuNAND a try when Gateway releases 7.0 support for it. Also the update prompt is not dangerous unless you lend your 3DS to a naive or careless person. Here's an explanation: #130

Edit: Link fixed

As of now, no emuNAND and internet switched off. I read that if you are connected, at some point, Nintendo will put that update into your 3DS and after that you will be bothered forever and ever. I don't want that, and until I find the way to avoid it, will avoid connecting the 3ds to the internet.

I think I don't need the emuNAND, although I might do it just for the sake of having the backup. I have no plans of using eShop at all, but game patches might make me reconsider it.

Sorry, I fixed the link, so you may want to read the info there, in case you want to play an online game or get streetpasses.

How often do you get the prompts? Luckily I have no children to worry about, it's just that I don't know if it's worth it to be annoyed often to get some patches.

About streetpass, if I'm not mistaken you need >6.2, so it implies emuNAND as the only option.

Streetpass is not dependent of a 3DS firmware; you can freely streetpass with anyone, even if 3DS A is 2.2 and 3DS B is 7.0; received content may be limited though.

The prompts appear every 24 hours. If you change the date of the 3DS, you will get a prompt after returning to the Home Menu too.

Sorry if this has been answered before, can I use a Zelda ROM, not the retail cart, to update my emunand to v6.x.x.x?
No, it's not possible.
The Launcher.dat compatible with EmuNAND has ROM's System version requirement spoofing (firmware spoofing), so it will not prompt you to update if you use the ROM.

But you should be able to update your EmuNAND using the cartridge, it will update to 6.2.0-x (x being your current X version, which is the eshop/internet version).
You will be able to play your retail cartridge on emuNAND, but you won't have access to eshop/internet/etc. because you are not at latest X version. If you try to access eshop, it will prompt you to update : DO NOT ACCEPT! it will update your SysNAND.
If you want to update EmuNAND to latest version, always use the Settings.
The cartridge update is only if you want to play your owned games, you update to the required firmware.

I wanted to buy a ds flashcart for my 3ds, yet I have no idea which one to get, I presume, the carts like the R4 Dual core 2014, will work on a untouched 3Ds, also, is there a flashcart working on the 3Ds which is capable of emulating GBA games?

Oh also, it would be great if it was possible to play backups online on the cart.

The SuperCard DS Two can play GBA on 3DS, and works with all DS games/DS Homebrew. It works on all current 3DS versions up to 7.0.0. (though, you may need an old version, or a DS/DSi/DSLite to update the DSTwo firmware to work on latest 3DS version)

Hello, only had gateway+ 3ds f 4.1 for 2 days and have some questions.
After reading compatibility list I understood that I would need 6.3 too be able too play region free roms+ Pokemon retail, but not be able too connect too online. While emunand 7 would let me go online but only able too play my region roms.

So my questions is
-Can I jump from firmwere 4.1 sysnand too 6.3/7 emunand? Or do i need to be on 4.5?
- I read that "its too late too update too 6.3" is that true? I know that patch 7 were released not long ago.
- Can I have emunand 6,3 and 7 on seperate sd cards? Changing between them.
-The GW files is it needed on every sd card with games?
- I have a USA consoll does that medan if I update too emunand 7 I wont be able too play games I buy in Norway( EU games)

Just one thing you missed:

7.0.0 doesn't let you go online (well, online in games yes, but not eshop).

Some clarifications:
- You don't need 6.3 to have region free ROMS (Region free works on 4.1.0 to 6.3.0), and you don't need EmuNAND for region free.
- Cartridge works EmuNAND Classic as long as you have the System version equals or higher than the one bundled with the game.
- Pokemon will require EmuNAND Classic 6.2.0+
- Going online in a game = works on all version, as long as it doesn't ask you to update (in which case you will require eshop access).
- Going online on System menu application (Eshop) = works only when you are on latest System version, but NOT in 7.0.0 GW2.0b1 (Gateway team need to release a new version)
It worked on 6.3 when 6.3 was the latest version. Now that Nintendo release 7.0.0, eshop doesn't work anymore (not in 6.3, not in 7.0)
- If you already have EmuNAND 6.3.0, you don't need to update to 7.0.0, it doesn't provide any new features (it even removes them: no region free, no access to settings).
- If you have only EmuNAND 4.5.0, you can update to 6.2.0 with a cartridge while in EmuNAND Classic to play your retail card requiring system version higher than 4.5.0, but never accept eshop's updates. Always update from Settings. This update method is not recommended. You better update to 7.0.0 and use different SD card to use different Gateway mode/emuNAND version.

If you want both Pokemon and ROMs region free, then yes the best EmuNAND version is 6.3.0

Your questions:
- You can update your EmuNAND from 4.1 to 7.0 without problem. (you can't update to 6.3 anymore)
- It's true, nintendo doesn't provide old System version on Online update, always the latest. So you can only update to 7.0.0
- Yes, you can of course have different EmuNAND version on different SD card. (but you can't update to 6.3 anymore, as this update is not available on Nintendo's servers)
- the Launcher.dat is needed on all SD card you use, it's launched when you access the DS Profile to put the console in "Gateway" mode. Shutdown your console to switch the SD card/emuNAND you want to use.
- EmuNAND 7.0.0 is not region free when using 2.0b1 or r4/link 3.0. You DON'T need to update your EmuNAND to play your games. Only Pokemon X/Y need update.

Your best solution :
Use two SD cards :
- One with EmuNAND to latest version (7.0.0) + GW2.0b1 to play Pokemon card.
- One without EmuNAND + GW2.0b1, and you will be on 4.5 with ALL games working (except Pokemon ROM/Card, and Animal Crossing ROM)

Alright say you had a 3ds 4.4.0-10u and you purchased a r4i Gold 3DS Deluxe and you also purchased Pokémon X as well as Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance. Now for a noob like me after sifting through these links on this topic this really was like noob paradise for me so thank you very much. But albeit I have one little question, can I really play these two retail games by using EmuNand on my r4i or is that option no longer available.

Thanks for helping either way with this thread.

You could if you update via cartridge as explained in the previous post. Not recommended, but it would work and allow you to play them. Just be careful to only update the emuNAND if you go this route.

You can play these two games using EmuNAND Classic, but you need EmuNAND only for Pokemon.
Kingdom Hearts work without Gateway. just put your game in your console and play.

Alright manage too make a emunand 7.....I think? Can't get into setting after booting classic/gateway mode. It keeps loading when I click setting. Still says 4.1 so I don't think I did anything wrong.

I have a question. Is there any way to dump 3DS ROMs at home? They can have quite hefty file sizes making them a bitch to download off slow fileshare sites.

Updated apps are not working on 7.0 at the moment. Gateway may fix this on their next launcher expected around Christmas.
Relevant updated apps: System Settings, eShop.

Gateway was going to offer a solution for this. We don't know if they are going to release this feature on their next firmware or if they dropped it completely due to an obscure reason.

My 3DS is currently on v5.1.0-11U (it came with an earlier firmware, but if I remember correctly, I updated to my current firmware to play Luigi's Mansion: DM). If the physical hardware of my 3DS matters I can provide more information. Do any of the flashcarts that play 3DS roms support my current firmware? If not, is there a specific game I can buy to update it to a supported firmware and/or are there firmware updates planned for one or more of the 3DS-rom-playing flash carts capable of supporting my 3DS's firmware?

There's only one relevant flashcard (Gateway), the rest are clones, so they don't offer better compatibility by any means. Sorry, but Gateway only works from 4.1 to 4.5; nothing above, nothing below.

Also, I wouldn't hold out my hopes for 5.1 support, if this serves for you.
