In a blog post today, EA announced its new, Seattle-based AAA development studio Cliffhanger Games. Led by Kevin Stephens (Monolith Productions), Cliffhanger is working on a single-player action-adventure game based on Marvel’s Black Panther.

“We’re dedicated to delivering fans a definitive and authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more agency and control over their narrative than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game. Wakanda is a rich Super Hero sandbox, and our mission is to develop an epic world for players who love Black Panther and want to explore the world of Wakanda as much as we do,” said Kevin.

While Cliffhanger Games has a team with experienced developers having worked on titles such as Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Halo Infinite, and God of War, it is looking to further expand its team over the next few years as their debut title is still early in development stages.

• game will be full of microtransactions
• game will have a big open world full of checkmarks and a lot of grinding
• game will have a black main character (maybe even a black woman, lgbtq+ "hints" possible)
• game will sell okay, turn to profit, but will underperform to EA standards
• studio will be shutdown

Marvel under Disney feels a lot like Marvel pre-Marvel Studios did, wildly inconsistent quality that's going to end up driving people away from the brand altogether. They're handing out licenses like candy when they should be given only to developers with a proven track record. Midnight Suns would've been received a lot better if Avengers hadn't already left a bad taste in people's mouths.

Can ea force multiplayer in this?
Can ea shove an ass ton of microtransactions, loot boxes and otber monetization while charging $100+ for the base game?
If no to either of these, expect ea to cancel it as soon as interest dies down, and to dissolve the studio and staff faster than a cup of hot tea in front of a cockney brit.
