Mar10 Day 2024 announcements - new Mario movie, Paper Mario TTYD remaster release date, and more

Happy Mar10 day! Nintendo is celebrating its mascot by unveiling a handful of announcements featuring Mario. A two-minute video was posted to the official Nintendo YouTube channel, detailing three new bits of information. First off, Nintendo and Illumination are teaming up once more, for a second Super Mario Bros. movie. The same team in charge of the first movie will return for this project, which will release in theaters on April 3, 2026 in the United States.

Two other reveals quickly followed: the release dates for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, which will be out May 23, 2024, and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD, which launches on June 27, 2024.

For those subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, a few new games will arrive on the platform as well. Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis, all for the Game Boy Color will arrive on March 12th.

Shame they're holding out on the GBA Mario sports games. They really are the peak of the series. Nice to have dates on Paper Mario and the Luigi port though.
Id argue Mario Golf Toadstool Tour is peak but otherwise definitely a shame. Very excited for TTYD on switch though, been holding off on buying the gamecube version.

I can respect that. I just liked the single player stories of the GBA games really. It's nice to see the Switch versions at least moving back to having more decent single player content, even if it is a little hit or miss.

Am I the only one who had a bit of a "cringe time" at the beginning of the video, when we heard "oh yea, mario time"?

Really? Sure, the first movie was quite fun, but I found Peach to be wildly out-of-character - she's nowhere near as gung-ho and adventure-happy and stuff in the games; she seems more dainty and ditzy in them, not to mention held captive the entire way through in most games.

Dr. Mario, Mario Golf, and Mario Tennis

Save for Mario Golf for GBC this seems scrapping the botton of the barrel. A reminder that the first Wario Ware includes a reskin of Doctor Mario as Doctor Wario and that GBC Doctor Mario is a port of the Nes game.
There really should be more GBA games releases for the Switch, while a lot of GBA games are ports there is still quite a lot of good Nintendo games for GBA that aren't ports.

It really feels they are desperate to hold things until December when they will probably announce when the heck their next videogame console will be launched.

Drop the new console announcement already, stop beating around the bush.

A reminder this isn't the first time Nintendo does something like this. Back when the Super Familycon (Japanese Super Nintendo) launched in Japan, Nintendo of America not only tried to hide it but has a private conference to reassure investors that "8 bit is enough and the Nes still has many years to live" no one bought it. And even when the Super Nintendo launched in the USA they still tried to keep the Nes going for a while longer.

To me it seems Nintendo is desperate for the Switch sales of both consoles and games to not slow down and wanting to make sure they got enough games on release for the next system or at least big hitters.

The fact certain Pokemon game got delayed to next year it probably means the console it launches it will be whatever the Switch Successor is.

Only Mario games being released this year being almost 2D, remakes and a half baked Princess Peach game means they are also working on a Mario game for their next system.

So yeah don't expect much for the Switch this year save perhaps decent remakes.

Cause they are saving most of the good stuff for the next system.

That voice acting at the beginning was atrocious. How the hell did they think this replacement voice actor was the best fit as the future successor? Dude needs an auto tune in his life with some other adjustments for the tone. Mario doesn't need to sound like a bootleg straight out of China.

I found the role the voice actor could fill!!!

2024 is definitely the padding year while they finish up all the launch titles and launch window games for Switch 2. Wouldn't be surprised if they dropped Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on Switch this year or something too. PAAAAAAADDDDDDDOING that release schedule
