just got my mig switch and followed instructions to the T to update it and all im getting is a red light and then a message saying cart not recognised,
all im trying to do is update it to the latest firmware, it says it should flash blue when updating but all i ever get is 3 red flashes then "cart not recognised"

sd card is formatted to exfat, update file placed on root what am i doing wrong?
are some sd cards not working or something?
heres a pic of the sd card once i put it in the switch it creates an .nxindex file but its not flashing blue or anything so what exactly is the update process and what am i doing wrong?
using latest update 1.1.2 but i have tried them all

It will only update and make the light flash once unless you use a different firmware file you likely just missed it, it’s a super fast blink of an LED

Did you try and put any games on it ? The cart won’t be recognized by the Nintendo switch unless you place the game files on the SD card following the proper folder structure

After all the switch can’t read a game that isn’t on there

Yea that’s fine it’s turning red because you don’t have any games on it it can load or be read if there is nothing to load or read

I'm also in the same situation, I'm wondering if it can be tested with a single xci file since I also don't have the dumper yet, just to understand if mig switch works.

No. If you want just an XCI file usable you need custom firmware

Or if you have to use the MIG you need donor certs…which are hella easy to find. The set I may or may not have listed has been downloaded like 300 times

Please don't share that donor then, they can use Google to find it

You need to buy a Mig Dumper if you plan to dump your own games. But yeah Mig Switch is for "Owned" game carts that were dumped by the same product. XCI/NSP wont do you any good.

the xci mite be from a different version im not sure i renamed it to match the certificate file
I think you need all 4 bin files

I keep seeing people say you don’t but I never got it to work with alternatively sourced files without all 4 bin files

What did work for me is taking the raw .bin files, convert it to .pbp, then take that .pbp and convert to .cia

it worked, but my file is 30% larger, I want to utilize .chd to have a smaller file size
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I can't say where but there are a lot of FF7 pbps online lol
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It's that one stations they don't want us to pay at
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah FF7 and a couple of others are sensitive to being compressed I think due to anti piracy measures
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Some sort of like sector check in the code of the game or something
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Lol Ken or Vims layer or something
  • haddad @ haddad:
I found out my own method which is

    1. download the indivudal .bin/.cue files
    2. use psx2psp to convert it into single .pbp
    3. then use ps1 forwader creator to convert to single .cia
    4. installed .cia file on 3ds and played that way

wonderngi if there is an easier way to just convert all bin file to chd
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I used a different converter and did a batch job on like the entire PS1 North American library it took a while lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
After compression and deleting like all the junk games was like 350GBs or something
  • haddad @ haddad:
I am trying it with FF7 now, it's 3 dics and I am seeing if it works
  • haddad @ haddad:
I just merged all 3 dics into 1 pbp, then converted to .cia and now moving to my 3ds now
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Lol 3 dics
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
That's one of the hardest ones to get working very finicky
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
For some reason the other final Fantasy games on the PS1 are all way easier
  • haddad @ haddad:
here is the weird thing, if I take the pre-downloaded .pbd from online and put on my PSP, it plays perfectly
  • haddad @ haddad:
but pre-downloaded pbd to cia, wont work hahaha
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Like getting kh3 running on Linux can be a pain
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
The 3DS emulator for PS1 is literally at the limits of what the New 3DS can even pull off
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Is 3ds your only real option for ps1 emulation
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I'm honestly surprised they managed it at all let alone that for some games it works perfectly
  • haddad @ haddad:
No, I got a PSP Go that emulates PSP and PS1 perfectly, but
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Well he said he has a PSP also lol
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I get the I want it to run factor but the headache of it
